<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize unnecessary trouble for a user and a risk of damaging a printer carrying out a process concerning the process to paper having a carrying defective, and facilitate restoration of subsequent action. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of paper position detecting means are provided, and in a case where occurrence of a paper carrying defective is detected, the state of the paper carrying defective is determined based on information of the detecting means. States to enable a user to easily eliminate the paper having the carrying defective by different processing action are formed in accordance with the paper carrying defective states, and the printer is stopped before notification to the user.
