<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for a solid polyelectrolyte fuel cell having improved platinum utilization factor and excellent gas diffusion property, by controlling affinity between catalyst holding carbon and solid polyelectrolyte. <P>SOLUTION: The electrode for the solid polyelectrolyte fuel cell is configured with a gas diffusion layer which consists of mainly a fibrous carbon material, and a catalyst layer formed on one side of the gas diffusion layer which consists of mainly a catalyst component, the carbon material and the polyelectrolyte. In the electrode, the catalyst holding carbon in the carbon material contained in the catalyst layer and holding the catalyst thereby, has pores with volume density of 0.1 mL/g or more and diameters of 2 nm or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
