[Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Elastic polyurethane threads are made by extruding a liquid polyurethane prepolymer into a coagulating bath containing a compound which reacts with the prepolymer to form larger molecules, removing the threads formed, bring- ing them into contact with a dyestuff solution and finally subjecting them to a heat-treatment whereby the polymer chain lengthening initiated in the coagulation bath is completed. The dyebath solution preferably uses as solvent a liquid which is at least partially miscible with the coagulating bath, and preferably is the liquid which forms the main component thereof. A finishing agent, e.g. a polysiloxane, optionally together with other conventional finishing agents may also be incorporated into the dyebath solution. In the examples polyester and polyether type prepolymers with terminal NCO groups are extruded into a coagulating bath containing ethylene diamine, dyed with a phthalocyanine or pre-metallized dyestuff and finally heated at 200‹ C. The coagulating bath may alternatively contain one or more thiols, triamines, phenols or amidines as the said compound. |
