1,231,217. Grinding. LANDIS TOOL CO. 13 June, 1968 [14 June, 1967], No. 28059/68. Heading B3D. [Also in Division H2] A machine tool control apparatus for actuating one or more machine tool elements comprises a stepping motor 9MTR, a plurality of switches 9TR1, 9TR2, 9TR3 for actuating the motor, means 40 for actuating the switches in a predetermined sequence to rotate the motor intermittently and consisting of means 42 for opening and closing the switches, driving means including a single selectively continuously and intermittently operable switch motor and means for controlling the switch motor for selectively providing continuous or intermittent operations thereof. As described, the machine tool consists of a grinding machine having a pair of grinding discs D which are driven from motors 12 and mounted on slides 11, movable towards and away from each other by a feed screw 21 engaging nuts 20. The screw is driven by a worm and wheel mechanism 25, 26 from a shaft 27 rotatable by a hand wheel 20 or the motor 9MTR. Rotation of motor 9MTR is effected by the switches 9TR1, 9TR2, 9TR3 which are actuated by a cam 42 mounted on the shaft 41 of switch motor which includes a clutch and brake mechanism controlled by a solenoid 9TRC. A second cam 43 actuates a switch 9TR4 to send pulses to a pulse counting relay. The switches 9TR1, 9TR2, 9TR3 are arranged to cause step-by-step feeding of the grinding discs towards each other to a limit determined by a pulse counter. The circuit can be arranged to feed the discs continuously and away from each other. |
