1,152,502. Coating with glass-metal mixtures. E. I. DU FONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 31 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 25193/67. Heading C1M. [Also in Division C7] A metallizing composition used in producing a fired coating on a ceramic comprises by weight (a) 60-95% of at least one of Ag, Pd, Pt, Au powders; (b) 4-35% of an inorganic binder powder; (c) at least 0À1% of at least one Rh, Ir, Ru, Cu, Si, SiC, BN as powders with a particle size of 0À05 to 44 microns with at least 80% in the range 0À05 to 5 microns. Components (a) and (b) have a particle size of 0À1 to 10 microns and the composition preferably contains 0À1-7% of component (c). The inorganic binder component (b) may be a glass frit such as lead borate, lead borosilicate, lead bismuth borosilicate, lead fluoborate, cadmium borate and alkali metal cadmium borate and borosilicate types, e.g. sodium cadmium borosilicate containing 63À1% CdO, 7À3% Na 2 O, 16À9% B 2 O 3 , 12À7% SiO 2 . The metallizing composition is dispersed in an organic vehicle such as solutions of a polymethacrylate of a lower alcohol or of ethyl cellulose in a solvent such as beta terpineol, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, diethylene glycol butyl ether acetate, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and ethylene glycol butyl ether acetate. Examples are given of coating alumina substrates with the composition and firing the coating. |
