Localised heating of workpieces is effected by means of an electron beam, the intensity of which is varied according to the configuration, location and/or heat conductivity of the material being heated. - This is done to prevent overheating and ensure uniform heating of workpieces, partic. in the heat treatment of steel components and profiles such as saw teeth.
