10-90 p.b.w. of a therapeutically active sulphonamide, which is sparingly sol. in water (esp. 5-methyl-sulphadiazine) is embedded in 90-10 p.b.w. of galactomannans (esp. guar endosperm galactomannans, mol.wt. ca 50,000). - They are prepd. by spraying the sulphonamide and galactomannan from a soln.; pref. a soln. of the sulphonamide in aqs. ammonia and a soln. of the galactomannans in water are combined and sprayed at 170-250 degrees (pref. 200-220 degrees). - The products give improved resorption of the sulphonamides after oral administration. - They are used as such (in powder form or compressed into tablets) or in admixture with other solid, liquid and/or semi-liquid pharmaceutical carriers.
