Cpds. of formula (I):- (where R = halo-alkyl or opt. substd. aromatic residue which may be connected to a heterocyclic residue and may contain bridging members; R1 = as in R but different from R; X and Y = 1,2 or 3) have plant-protecting activity. - Compounds (I) and (II) are prepd. by reacting an iminocarboxylic acid ester-hydrazide (III) with cyanic acid esters (IV); R'(-OCN)y at pref. -10 to +60 degrees C. in solvent. (where x in (III) = 1,2 or 3 but must be 1 when y in (IV) = 2 or 3; y in (IV) = 1,2 or 3 but must be 1 when x in (III) = 2 or 3).
