1315917 Plasma spray gun nozzle SEALECTRO CORP 10 Sept 1971 42279/71 Heading B2F A spray nozzle for a plasma spray gun has an axial opening through which the plasma gases are ejected, a flat end face perpendicular to the nozzle axis and a plurality of equally spaced helical grooves 22 formed in the outside surface of the nozzle and terminating at the nozzle face, for providing jets of air which surround and limit the plasma spray. Fluent powder, e.g. polytetrafluoroethyline enters through flexible tubes 15, 16 from a reservoir under pressure, and is forced into conduits 17, 18. Meanwhile gas forced through the one chamber at 13 is given a helical direction causing the plasma to turn on its axis as it passes through and out of the nozzle. The powder is thus mixed evenly with the plasma in the space near the gas surface. Helical grooves 22 control the ejected gas flame by providing a helical path for air drawn from the atmosphere by the reduced pressure near the nozzle face. The grooves are in the same direction as the circular motion given to the plasma gas.
