They are prepared by reacting a compound either in the presence of an acid acceptor or in the form of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salt, with an ester halide of the formula (RO)(R)P(X)Hal wherein Hal is halogen. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an inert organic solvent. The products have insecticidal, acaricidal, nematocidal, tickicidal and fungicidal properties and may be used as active ingredients in conventional pestioidal compositions. Reference is made to Specification 965,997. The 3-hydroxybenzisoxazole derivatives II are obtained by reacting the appropriately substituted salicylhydroxamic acid with thionyl chloride. This method is applied using the appropriately substituted salicylhydroxamic acid to form compounds II in which Y is H and Y 1 is NO 2 , CH 3 S and (CH 3 ) 3 C respectively and also a compound in which Y is CH 3 and Y 1 is H.
