A microwave band-pass filter uses cylindrical cavities of the TE 011 wave-mode type having input and output apertures in mutually perpendicular radial planes. As shown, two TE 011 cavities are coupled to each other and to cavities 9, 10 (also forming sections of the filter) by apertures 22, 23, 24, the coupling being varied by means of rods 35, 36, 37 and the cavities being tuned by means of axiallymovable dielectric discs 32 with conductive peripheries 33. The cavities 9, 10 are coupled to input and output rectangular waveguides by apertures 5, 6. These cavities may be cylindrical TE 111 cavities or rectangular TE 102 cavities, the condition of selection being that they should have only one resonance mode within the pass band of the filter. The effect of the unwanted TE 311 mode in cavities 20, 21 is reduced by means of an adjustable co-axial stub 25, 26 which couples energy in this wave-mode to a dissipative member 28. The filter is constructed in such a way, evident from the drawings, that it can be readily assembled using nuts and bolts. |
