1,135,265. Amine nitriles. ETHYL CORP. 25 Jan., 1966 [25 Jan., 1965], No. 3353/66. Heading C2C. An amine nitrile is prepared by a process which comprises adding HCN to a reaction mixture comprising water, formaldehyde, and a salt of ammonia, a primary amine or a secondary amine with a strong acid, particularly sulphuric acid, the amount of HCN added being within 10% of the stoichiometric amount based on said salt. Examples describe the production of nitrilotriacetonitrile from ammonium sulphate, of ethylenediamine-tetraacetonitrile from ethylenediamine dihydrochloride, and of nitrilotriacetonitrile from hexamethylenetetramine sulphate. |
