1,212,702. Sintered Fe-Cr coatings on ferrous substrates. ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. Feb. 26, 1968 [Feb. 27, 1967; April 25, 1967; July 5, 1967] Nos. 9239/67, 19024/67 and 31043/67. Headings C7D and C7F. Ferrous substrates e.g. steel strip is coated with Fe-Cr alloy powder containing at least 74%Cr and/or containing at least 60%Cr and a total of 2-20% Al and/or Si and/or from 0À1-5%P, compacted and heat treated. Compaction is effected by rolling and optionally a coating of a metal halide which reacts with Cr e.g. ferrous halide and ammonium chloride may be applied after compaction and heat treating effected at above 800‹C. preferably 920‹-1000‹C. The alloy powder preferably contains a maximum C content of 0À1% and 81- 90%Cr and is applied to the substrate in an amount of 2-20 gms/sq. ft. The compacted coated strip is coiled prior to heat treatment in hydrogen. |
