[Also in Division E2] A tape reel container comprises upper and lower container members, an operating handle secured to the centre of the upper member and rotatable between first and second positions, a locking mechanism operated by the handle to lock the members together when the handle is in the first position and to allow separation when the handle is in the second position, a locking member resiliently biased to a locking position in which it locks the handle in the first position when the handle is moved thereto, the handle being incapable of being moved from its first to its second position without simultaneous manual operation of the locking member to move it out of the locking position. As illustrated the members 19, 17 are adapted to be secured together by balls 75 carried by the upper member which are urged by a cam 85 into engagement with a locking flange 93 on the lower member. The cam is carried by a rotatable operating member 77 and comprises grooves 89, 91, and flattened portions 87. When the operating member is in its releasing position the cam portions 87 are adjacent the balls (Fig. 10). Rotation of the operating member by its handle causes the grooves 89 to engage the balls and lock the container members together. Further rotation of the operating member into a slipping position with the grooves 91 engaging the balls is permitted by depression of an annular locking ring 103 against spring 97 so that the end portions 127 of the handle may pass over upstanding projections 111 on the ring. The ring is non-rotatable and movement of the operating member beyond its shipping position is prevented by lugs 115 which engage lugs 101 on the upper container member. The two container members are sealingly engaged by rings 53, 55 and 57 and the lower member comprises a substantially rectangular outer wall, a circular inner wall and a hub 49. Handles are provided by a continuous strap (41) (Fig. 1, not shown) e.g. of plastics tubing, which passes through recesses (31 and 35). |
