<p>1305808 Laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 47035/70 Heading B5N A foam laminate of the type comprising a rigid layer of a foamed synthetic plastics material confined between two skins has on at least one of the skins a decorative coating comprising a polymeric material and antimony trioxide powder, the exposed face of the decorative coating having laminated thereto a strippable protective film of a synthetic plastics material. Suitable foamed materials are of polyurethane, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde and epoxide resins. The skins (which may be the same or different for any one laminate) may be of paper, paperboard, cardboard, metal in sheet or foil form, asbestos paper or sheets, rubber, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, fibre glass, melamine-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde, polystyrene, nitro cellulose, densely woven cloth, wood, plywood, plasterboard, asbestos cements sheets, hardboard, fibreboard and adhesively bonded laminates e.g. a paper/polyethylene/aluminium foil laminate. The skin is provided with its decorative coating and protective film before being fed to the foam laminating step. The polymeric material may be an acrylic polymer or copolymer e.g. an acrylic/vinylidene chloride copolymer, polyvinyl chloride, or chlorinated rubber and is preferably applied to the outer skin as a pigmented solution or emulsion e.g. a printing ink containing the antimony trioxide powder e.g. by an air-knife coating technique. The strippable film is preferably of polyethylene or polypropylene and may be applied by hot extrusion or by roller coating.</p> |
