The establishment of conditions suitable for synchronising the incoming generator with the power system is speeded up by employing an additional input signal to the turbine governor (5). The normal constant acceleration signal (7) is combined with a signal dependant upon the angular phase error between machine and system voltage and a computed error derived from acceleration and slip frequency (2). The signals are combined such that when conditions of zero slip are reached the angular error is within the permissible limits for synchronising. The machine can thus be coupled to the system in a finite known time. The circuits would normally form part of an overall process controller used for starting the unit up. |
