1363307 Inflatable escape shoots GARRETT CORP 20 Aug 1971 [21 Aug 1970] 39216/71 Heading B7J An inflatable escape slide for aircraft, comprises an inflatable tube subdivided into a first space 42 and a secondary space 40 by a membrane 24 having a restricted opening 36 for passage of fluid between the spaces 40 and 42, arranged such that upon initial pressurization of the first space 42 the membrane 24 lies close to or in contact with an inner surface region (at portion 48) of the secondary space 40 but thereafter can move away from this surface region (to the position shown). Instead of the membrane 24 being a subsidiary wall, as shown, the first space and membrane may be formed by a single wall and the secondary space defined by the membrane and a further wall (124), Fig. 4 (not shown), secured to the single wall. If the outer wall 48 of the secondary space 40 is fractured, the membrane 24 provides an at least temporary confining wall to pressurizing fluid. thus enabling the first space 42 alone to form a temporary inflated beam. Two tubular beam members 14 and 16 may be interconnected by a fabric slideway 22 and may further include a third intermediate inflatable tubular beam member (215), Fig. 8 (not shown), whose membrane (225) is interconnected with the inner surface of the wall of the secondary space (235) by at least one hanger connection (243), the membrane (225) having a restricted opening (239, 241) on each side of the hanger connection.
