The brake pedal and the brake are kept in the off position by a resistance determined by the normal off pressure of the foot. For safety reasons the resistance can be a little more than the off pressure. The holding force is prematurely released if the gas pedal is quickly moved up, at least by the time the idling position is reached. The mechanism on the brake pedal consists of an electromagnet (1) and a ferro magnetic counter plate (2) fixed to the brake pedal. The operation of this electromagnetic system follows the position of the gas pedal (5) automatically. The holding force is adjusted by a potentiometer. An extension to the principle has a hydraulic system with throttle to transmit the pedal force and the design can also be adapted for use with radar distance warning systems and automatic transmissions.
|
