Applying wax spacer pips to edges of ceramic tiles - preventing glazed tiles from sticking together during baking

In the application of spacer pips made of a completely combustible, glaze-repellent, protective material onto at least one surface of continuously moving ceramic bodies, esp. tiles, at least one blowing channel is filled by periodic immersion in a bath and then move to a position where a jet of air can blow the material out of the channel onto a surface of the tile which is parallel to the direction in which the tile is moving. Each spacer pip is pref. formed of several layers obtd. using several blowing channels. The device pref. includes a conveyor for the tiles and a rotating disc contg. blowing channels near its periphery, the channels being immersed in a bath of the protective material by rotation of the disc. Applying pips of wax to the edges to tiles prevents the glaze on one tile reaching that on an adjacent tile during baking.
