An array of near enough identical crystals of a material which converts gamma-radiation into light, has the crystals near enough in contact with each other, and in contact over the whole length of one side of the crystals, with a collimator. The array is also provided with two photo-multiplier tubes and light mixing prisms to form a device for scanning objects which emit gamma-rays. Each crystal is enclosed except on the surface turned away from the collimator by material which is impermeable to light. On the unscreened side two mirror image optical conductors of transparent material are located. These are sepd. by a narrow gap which coincides near enough with a flat surface of each of them, and their flat base surfaces together with the cross-section of the gap cover at least the whole of the surface turned away from the collimator. The gap in which the material impermeable to light is placed stands vertically on the surface turned away from the collimator. Its plane passes through the centre point of the surface of the row of crystals turned away from the collimator, and also intersects all the crystals of the row. Both photo-multiplier tubes are connected to corresponding surfaces of the optical conductors.
|
