Bactericidal penicillins (I; R = H, C2-8 alkenyl, substituted C2-8 alkenyl, C2-8 alkenyl, substituted C2-8 alkyl, phenyl) having improved stability in aq. soln. and their nontoxic salt, were prepd. by reaction of II and III. Thus, 2.5 ml of 20%(W/W) NaOH in 1.2 ml propionaldehyde and 6.5 g amoxycillin trihydrate in 100 ml H20 were reacted and filtered with filter paper(0.45 mμ pore). The reactant was cooled to -60≦̸C and dried to give I(R = Et) (C19H29N3O5SNa1.5H2O; M.W. 454.47; m.p. 220≦̸C).
