<p>Fixed or movable grid (element), for heat exchange between a hot particulate solid and a cooling fluid, consists of a cast heat resistant steel plate having an array of holes through which the fluid passes and which extend from the bottom surface to the top, solids-receiving surface. This top surface has relief portions, pref. grooves extending transverse to the solids flow direction, to provide an obstacle to flow of the solids immediately next to the grid surface. The grid is esp. useful for combined cooling of cement clinker and preheating of air for supply to a rotary cement kiln. The relatively static layer of solids immediately next to the grid surface protects the grid against wear, deformation, direct impact of the solids and high temps. so that grid service life is increased.</p> |
