The tool-change system may be used in conjunction with numerical mfr. operations. A revolving circular tool magazine (12) has tool-emplacements (14,15) arranged in concentric circles. A support arm (11) moves the magazine between a withdrawn (10) and an active (10') position and one or other of the tool circles aligns with the machine tool (1) spindle (3) in the active position. Tool change operations may involve combined movements of the tool and the magazine and take place automatically under numeric control, involving longitudinal, transverse or vertical spindle movements together with magazine displacement and rotation. The arm may pivot relative to a member rigidly connected to the base (4) of the machine-tool and the magazine may pivot to serve two adjacent machine tools.
