A tool, to be actuated manually, for increasing the torque when tightening or slackening a screwed connection consists of a housing (1), in which a ratchet (2) provided with a pivotable drive shank (2.1) is arranged which on one side has a square (2.2) onto which a socket (5) matching the screw head or nut of the screwed connection can be slipped, an actuating lever (3) for the ratchet (2), and a supporting device (7) releasably connected to the housing (1). At least one joint strap (4) is provided between the drive shank (2.1) of the ratchet (2) and the actuating lever (3), the distance (A) between the articulation point (P) for the joint strap (4) on the actuating lever (3) and the pivot point (D) of the actuating lever (3) in the housing (1) being selected in such a way that a reduction of the drive force transmitted by the actuating lever (3) to the ratchet (2) results. <IMAGE>
