A heat exchanger (11) made from a non-ferrous metal for motor vehicles has a heat exchanger block (16), which exhibits tubes and fins, and water boxes (12) whose tube plates (sheets) (14) are soldered to the tubes (17) of the heat exchanger block (16) and whose covers (13) are soldered to the respective tube plates (14). A circumferential groove-shaped flange (21) of one part accommodates a circumferential rim (24) of the other part and the solder. In order to be able to produce such a heat exchanger (11) more quickly and easily, the circumferential groove-shaped flange (21) is provided on the cover (13), and the open flange side (22), which accommodates the circumferential rim (26) of the tube plate (14), opens in the same direction as inlet regions (32) of passages (19) in the tube plate (14) which accommodate the tubes (17) of the heat exchanger block (16). <IMAGE>
