PURPOSE:To increase the critical current density of a Bi-alkaline earth metal-Cu- O type oxide superconductor by specifying starting material and carrying out producing stages under specified conditions when the oxide superconductor is produced. CONSTITUTION:When a Bi-Ae-Cu-O (Ae is one or more kinds of alkaline earth metals) type oxide superconductor is produced, a fine powdery Bi-Ae-Cu mixture consisting of 5-40mol% Bi, 15-70mol%, preferably 15-40mol% Ae (e.g., Sr or Ca) and 24-64mol% Cu is used as starting material (100mol% total). This starting material is sintered to form a superconducting phase and the sintered body is pulverized. The resulting fine powder is molded by applying pressure from a specified direction, e.g., the direction of c-axis to obtain an oxide superconductor having axes, e.g., c-axes oriented in a certain direction. |
