In a paper making process a web of wet paper is supported by an endless belt as it moves between two sets of calander drums (3, 4) in a first position. In a second process, the same two sets of drums are repositioned to an offset presentation with an altered contact interface. In a further embodiment further groups of paired calander drums each operate in two or more shift positions. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly in which the fiber web is warmed by one or more of the belts.
