A negative-type silver halide photographic material is disclosed, which comprises a support having provided thereon at least one hydrophilic colloid layer, at least one of which is a silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the hydrophilic colloid layer contains: (a) a compound represented by formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein, A1 and A2 both represent hydrogen atoms, or one represents a hydrogen atom and the other a sulfonyl group or an acyl group, R1 represents an aliphatic group, an aromatic group or a heterocyclic group, G1 represents a carbonyl group, a sulfonyl group, a sulfoxy group, <IMAGE> wherein R2 is an alkoxy group or an aryloxy group, a <IMAGE> group, or an iminoethylene group, X1 is a moiety which instigates a ring-forming reaction by cleaving the -G1-X1 moiety from the residual molecule and forming a cyclic structure containing the atoms of the -G1-X1 moiety; and (b) an amine, the compound represented by formula (I) and the amine being present in the same layer or in different layers.
