PURPOSE:To provide a recording medium transport device including a feeding means, by which skew can be prevented with high reliability in a low-priced constitution. CONSTITUTION:When a driving shaft is rotated in the opposite direction to the recording medium transport direction, a planetary gear 52 to which the drive is transmitted from a gear on the driving shaft i engaged with a paper feed roller gear 18 on a paper feed roller shaft 6 to transmit the drive, and when the driving shaft is rotated in the forward direction in the recording medium transport direction, the planetary gear 52 is engaged with a transport roller gear 15 on a transport roller shaft to transmit the drive. The planetary gear 52 and the driving shaft are rotated in the opposite direction to the recording medium transport direction to rotate the paper feed roller 18. Further, the transport device includes a control means for picking up a recording medium 12 in a recording medium storing part, bringing the recording medium 12 into contact with a press-contacting point between a transport roller and a pressure roller which are stationary, and then rotating the driving shaft in the recording medium transport direction.
