The invention relates generally to astrocyte cells comprising at least one DNA molecule capable of mediating cellular immortalization and/or transformation and comprising a factor capable of affecting metabolism, growth, differentiation, or survival of a brain cell. The present invention relates further to methods for immortalization and/or transformation of a substantially homogeneous astrocyte cell population, methods for creating and selecting such immortalized and/or transformed astrocyte cell lines, and methods for treating a brain disease with cells comprising an affecting factor. |
