The apparatus is for sensing the light intensity in the surroundings of the automobile and automatically lighting up the rear warning lamp if the intensity is low, so that it can prevent a rear end collision in the dark tunnel or a rainy day. It comprises a sensor(1) generating a signal based on the detected light intensity; a windshield wiper switcher(2); a motor(3) driving the windshield wiper; a rectifier(4) connected to the switcher(2); a controller(5) generating a control signal based on the signals of the sensor(1) and the rectifier(4); a relay(7) driven according to the signal of the controller(5); and the rear warning lamp(8).
