PURPOSE: To inhibit the fluctuation of a yaw angle at the time of seek operation, and to suppress the lowering of the dynamic floating quantity of a head and prevent the generation of trouble by controlling seek maximum speed or target speed in response to the seek direction of the head. CONSTITUTION: A control circuit 8 for the place of a head obtains the speed of travel of the head 1 from the current place of the head and the place of the head before the current place of the head by one acquired from a servo-data detector 7. The direction of movement of the head 1 is discriminated, and target speed to a target cylinder is determined by using a seak acceleration table corresponding to the direction of movement previously stored in a ROM. That is, seek target acceleration at the time of the seek of an outer circumference from an inner circumference is decreased, and that at the time of the seek of the inner circumference from the outer circumference is increased. Accordingly, speed or acceleration is controlled in response to the seek direction when the head is sought, thus inhibiting the increase of a yaw angle and suppressing the lowering of the quantity of the head floated, then preventing the generation of trouble such as head crush and improving reliability while allowing high- density recording. |
