METHOD FOR COMPRESSING AND DECOMPRESSING VIDEO DATA

A method for compressing and decompressing video data consisting of an array of individual image points (pixels). Each pixel has a pixel value that changes with time and that describes the colour or luminosity information of the pixel. A priority is allocated to each pixel and the pixels are then stored in a priority array according to this priority allocation. The array contains at each moment in time the pixel values that have been classified according to the priority allocation. The pixels and the pixel values that have been used to calculate the priority allocation are transmitted or saved according to the priority allocation. A pixel receives a high priority if the differences in relation to its neighbouring pixel are great. For the reconstruction process, the current pixel values in each case are reproduced on the display.
