PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a color reproduction area by using a color image input device whose color characteristic is known to read a color patch original outputted from a color image recorder. SOLUTION: A color signal read means 3 reads a three-primary color signal 4 received by a color image input means 1 and an observation equation generating means 5 generates an observation equation 6 based on the three-primary color signal 4, a spectral sensitivity characteristic 50 of an image pickup system, a spectral distribution characteristic 51 of lighting, and a spectral reflection characteristic model basis functions 52. An unknown characteristic parameter analysis means 7 solves the observation equation 6 to obtain a spectral reflection characteristic parameter 8, a spectral reflection characteristic restoration means 9 restores a spectral reflection characteristic 10 based on the spectral reflection characteristic parameter 8 and the spectral reflection characteristic model basis functions 52, a tristimulus value calculation means 11 calculates tristimulus values 12 based on the spectral reflection characteristic 10 and spectral distribution characteristics 53 of reference lighting, a storage modem 13 to a color reproduction area table stores the tristimulus values 12 to a color reproduction area table 54 by referencing image detailed information 38 to acquire a color reproduction area. |
