PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device whose use in an air conditioner enables it to dispense with a fan guard by a mechanism which detects an extraneous material passing in the air outlet of the apparatus and thereupon stops the operation automatically. SOLUTION: In an air conditioner there are provided a photosensor 1 which detects an extraneous material passing in the air outlet of the apparatus and a microcomputer 5 which, when the photosensor 1 has detected an extraneous material passing in the air outlet, effects the control to stop the fan. The photosensor material comprises a reflective type photocoupler 1 in which a light-emitting diode 1a and a solid-state photocell 1b are integrally combined and a reflecting mirror 2. The photocoupler 1 is placed at one of two opposed end surfaces of the air outlet and the reflecting mirror 2, at the other of the two opposed end surfaces of the air outlet. |
