<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser element which can suppress tracking noises due to returning light, a manufacturing method which can easily manufacture the semiconductor laser element without reducing producing yield, and an optical pickup device which uses the semiconductor laser element. <P>SOLUTION: A problem is solved by providing a semiconductor laser element which includes at least a semiconductor substrate, and a plurality of semiconductor stacked films including an active layer formed on the surface of the semiconductor substrate, in which the semiconductor substrate has channels extending to the direction parallel to the active layer from the rear surface of the semiconductor substrate to a position positioned to the substrate side by 50 μm or less from the thickness center of the active layer at least on the edge face at the side of the active layer for emitting laser light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
