PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress fluctuation in a clamp level in horizontal clamping that is conducted for a video signal outputted from a CCD. SOLUTION: A high speed sweep-out clamp pulse P1 whose width is wider than a width of a reference clamp pulse P0 used for a pixel clamp circuit 4 when signal charges stored in photo diodes of other area A2 is used when signal charges stored in photo diodes in a high speed sweep-out area A1 of an image pickup area 2 of a CCD 1 are swept out. Since pixels are surely clamped by the pixel clamp circuit 4, fluctuation in a clamp level of horizontal clamping in a horizontal clamp circuit 6 can be prevented in advance.
