PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rinsing liquid for silver halide photographic sensitive materials which eliminates the remaining of colors in the process photosensitive material and is capable of processing the photosensitive material without problems even after long- term use by incorporating sulfite and specific compounds into the rinsing liquid. SOLUTION: The rinsing liquid contains the sulfite and the compounds expressed by formula. In the formula, R1 denotes an alkyl group, alkenyl group and aryl group; R2 denotes a bivalent linkage group and R1 and R2 may form a ring by bonding each other. A denotes an acid group. According to this method, the sulfite hardly decreases during preservation and further, the concentration of the sulfite in the rinsing liquid does not decrease even after the rinsing liquid is taken out of a container and, therefore, the degradation of the remaining of the colors in the photosensitive material does not occur even after the long-term use. The sulfite to be used potassium sulfite, sodium sulfite, ammonium sulfite, etc.,. cations are not particularly selected, insofar as the cations are the salts of sulfurous acid ions. The amount at which the sulfite is included in the rinsing liquid is preferably <=0.1 mol, more preferably 0.01 to 0.05 mol per liter.
