PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain polybenzazole fibers useful as various kinds of industrial materials and having a new fibrous microstructure in which the fibrous structure is defect-free. SOLUTION: The polybenzazole fibers have <=0.3 deg./GPa X-ray meridian diffraction half-width factor, <=30 GPa decrement of modulus of elasticity by a change in molecular orientation, >=5.0 s T1H relaxation time of protons and >=2,000 s T1G relaxation time of carbon-13.
