摘要 PURPOSE: Provided are digital printing apparatus and methods, particularly an imaging of lithographic printing-plate constructions on- or off-press using digitally controlled laser output. CONSTITUTION: The method of imaging a lithographic printing member comprising the steps of: providing a printing member having a printing surface and including a first solid layer, a second solid layer underlying the first layer, and a heat-resistant layer underlying the second layer, the first layer and the heat-resistant layer having different affinities for ink, the second layer, but not the first layer, being formed of a material subject to ablative absorption of imaging radiation; selectively exposing, in a pattern representing an image, the printing surface to imaging radiation so as to ablate the second layer without causing the heat-resistant layer to undergo physical transformation, thereby avoiding entrapment of debris from an overlying layer; and removing remnants of the first and second layers where the printing member received radiation. The lithographic printing member includes a substrate(100), an insulating layer(102), a radiation-absorptive imaging layer(104), and a surface layer(106).
