PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a method and a control device for controlling a valve by a variable valve stroke. SOLUTION: In this method, controlling a valve arranged in an inlet opening part or an outlet opening part of a combustion chamber in an internal combustion engine by a variable valve stroke, the valve is controlled by depending on evaluation of a pressure in the combustion chamber. In this device, controlling the valve arranged in the inlet opening part or the outlet opening part of the combustion chamber in the internal combustion engine by the variable valve stroke, the device of type having a combustion chamber pressure sensor supplying a pressure signal indicating the pressure of the combustion chamber and a control device controlling a valve stroke controls the valve by the variable valve stroke. The control device has an evaluation device evaluating the pressure signal.
