A method for inputting characters in a terminal using a touch pad and an apparatus thereof are provided to save a user trouble by inputting characters with simple touches to a pad without repeatedly pressing keys. If a user consecutively touches a Hangul consonant(201) on the screen of a touch pad, a control part(130) receives an input signal from the touch pad, recognizes and combines the consecutively touched regions(1,2,3,6,9), compares the combined data with data of a preset basic data table, obtains the associated consonant, and displays it on a display part(120). If the user touches a Hangul vowel on the screen of the touch pad, the control part receives input signals(202,203), receives and combines the consecutively touched regions(4,5,6) and the subsequently touched region(*), obtains the associated vowel, combines it with the displayed consonant, and displays a completed letter.
