PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device, an image reader having the sheet carrying device, and an image forming device having the sheet carrying device and/or the image reader, capable of inexpensively carrying even a sheet of relatively high rigidity such as cardboard in a reduced space without causing a problem. SOLUTION: A second carrying means 7 of a paper carrying device 5A is composed of a belt carrying means 8A having a carrier belt 82 for constituting one of opposed pairs of its sandwiching carrying means out of a grip roller 81 capable of transmitting driving force by rotating, arranging the other of the opposed pairs in the contour direction of a first carrying passage A formed between a first carrying means 6 and the second carrying means 7, and carrying paper S toward a sandwiching part (a nip part) of the second carrying means 7 while holding a state of contacting with the tip of the paper S by being co-rotated by directly contacting with the grip roller 81.
