PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that in a conventional head rest device, the head rest is lifted to protect a head portion, etc. in collision, and the lifting stroke is secured, but in this configuration, the value of a lifting speed and distance is somewhat insufficient for following the movement of the head portion, etc. in collision, and further this value of the lifting speed and distance has the danger of secondary disasters and may cause new problems. SOLUTION: The active head rest B is composed of respective means provided on the frame of a seat-back. The respective means comprise a main driving device C which is arranged on a frame and is operated by a shock, a wire which is connected to the main driving device and moves in the seat-back up and down, an elevating device to be locked to the wire, and a movable block provided in the elevating device, and carry out the lifting and forward tilting movement of the head rest through cooperation thereof.
