PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder capable of precisely detecting an absolute angle of a rotation axis. SOLUTION: This encoder includes an eccentricity circular slit 25 being eccentric with respect to a rotation axis which is composed of a plurality of rotation slits and an incremental slit 35 being radial to the rotation axis. Absolute value of the rotation angle is obtained using the eccentricity circular slit 25, and by performing its interpolation division using the signals at the incremental slit, the absolute position at high resolution is detected.
