PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for operating trunk automation in a communication system is provided to efficiently and automatically execute trunk interfacing for data transmission between base station controllers. CONSTITUTION: An upper control block(600) sends a mode change request signal to a lower control block(700)(S1). Receiving the mode change request signal, the lower control block stores the configuration information of the change-requested mode in an EEPROM(400)(S2). Then the lower control block sends a mode change acknowledge signal to the upper control block(S3). The upper control block sends a conformance request message to the lower control block in order to confirm the conformance of mode configuration information(S4). Receiving the conformance request message, the lower control block reads mode configuration information from the EEPROM(S5). Then the lower control block sends a conformance acknowledge signal to the upper control block(S6). Based on the conformance acknowledge signal, the upper control block sends a trunk initialization request message to the lower control block(S7). Receiving the trunk initialization request message, the lower control block sends a trunk initialization acknowledge signal(S8) and executes trunk initialization(S9). |
