A photographic plate or print 6 is suctionally held on the lower surface of a lid 3 of a processing machine, the lid being hinged to a tank 2, and a carriage 7, carrying three tubes 8, 9, 10 which extend the width of the lid, moves backwards and forwards along the length of the tank, different processing liquids in turn being sprayed on to the emulsion surface of the plate by nozzles in the tube 8. The tubes 9, 10 are supplied with compressed air, and are provided with slots so as to provide air curtains in front of and behind the spray tube which curtains limit the spray and partly dry the plate. A system of pumps, multi-way valves and pipes supplies water, a developer, water, a fixer and water in turn to the tube 8, the developer and fixer being returned to the tanks 16, 17 respectively, and the water being sent to a waste outlet by means of the electrically controlled three way valves 14,18. Initiation of each processing step is controlled by a switching device operated when the carriage 7 reaches either end of the tank so that for each step the complete emulsion surface is scanned by the spray tube an integral number of times. |
