1,234,536. Heptenes. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 30 May, 1969 [30 May, 1968], No. 27572/69. Heading C5E. Heptenes are obtained by co-dimerizing propene and butene, the molar ratio of propene to butene being maintained in the liquid phase between 0À001 and 0À1. The mole ratio is preferably kept constant within this range. Conventional catalysts are used, particular those comprising Ni and/or Co. Specific catalysts mentioned include NiCl 2 , nickel acetylacetonate, bis - # - allyl - nickel, nickel bis-cyclooctadiene and complexes of NiCl 2 with two moles of tributyl phosphine or tri-phenyl phosphine, which may be used alone or in conjunction with an organo - aluminium halide, e.g. (C 2 H 5 ) 2 AlCl, (C 2 H 5 ) 3 Al 2 Cl 3 , (cyclohexyl) 2 AlBr and (phenyl) 2 - AlCl. If such an Al compound is present the reaction may be carried out in the presence of water (less than 2 moles/mole Al compound). |
