A generally rectangular liquefied gas, e.g. methane storage container at atmospheric pressure is formed of a self-supporting framework 6, Fig. 2, to which are secured thin flat wall-forming plates 9 supported by surrounding heat insulation 4; the base of the frame having a centrally extending guide 7 co-operating with a guide 8 on the floor 3 of a surrounding supporting structure, e.g. the inner ball 2 of a double-hulled ship. The frame 6 is braced by a corrugated bulkhead 13 and struts 11, 12 and the side-plates 9 have expansion folds 10. Struts 12 also serve as stays for the side-plates 9 to which they are connected by springs 15. |
