Silicic acid polyesters of formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl radicals, R<SP>3</SP> is an arylene radical; R<SP>4</SP> represents the residue obtained by removing the OH groups from a diol, dihydric phenol, bis-phenol or a hetero-organic compound containing two hydroxyl groups, m is an integer from 1 to 100 and n an integer of I to 200 are prepared by reacting a silicic acid ester silazane (or silylamine) of general formula in which R1, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and m have the meanings ascribed above, R<SP>5</SP> is H or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical and p is an integer of 1 to 200 with a dihydroxy compound R<SP>4</SP>(OH) 2 in substantially equimolar quantities at 20-440‹ C.
